Total Beginner Mandarin Classes

The focus of our classes is to initially focus on developing conversational fluency and begin Character recognition/reading comprehension at the intermediate level. Instructors and materials use Pinyin and Simplified characters. Traditional character texts and classroom use can be supplied on request.

	Mondays & Thursdays 5:30pm from 4/30/18 - 5/24/18

SATURDAY INTENSIVE MANDARIN CLASSES meet once a week for 3 hours. (Minimum 3 / Maximum 10 students).
*Lessons are shortened to 2 hours if enrollment is less than 3 students.

	Saturdays 1:30pm from 4/7/18 - 4/28/18

The focus of our Mandarin and Cantonese classes is on conversation. As an above-beginner, our rolling admission policy allows you to start your Mandarin classes anytime! Just fill out the form below and we will send you level-appropriate Mandarin or Cantonese class recommendations. If you see in our reply a class that suits your needs, you are welcome to attend a trial. If this class works for you and you decide to enroll, the trial will be considered your first class. If not, no problem! There will be no charge and we will look into other options based on your feedback.

Total Beginner: I have never taken Mandarin, or I have completely forgotten everything that I learned and need to start again.

I know pinyin, pronunciation, tones, how to introduce myself, say where I am from and where I live, and other very basic sentences.

I can ask and answer basic questions, know numbers/dates/time, can compare things, and know high frequency verbs and can use them in sentences.

I know vocabulary for daily activities, items (clothing etc.) , directions (location), and can describe people and things (physical attributes, colors, etc.).

I can speak about most conversational topics, but I get tripped up when trying to use complex grammatical structures.

I can converse with relative confidence about day-to-day topics and can use some complex structures, but I need to increase the types of conversation topics with which I feel comfortable speaking.

I am able to talk about most conversational topics and some professional topics although I lack sophisticated vocabulary and still make mistakes with colloquialisms.

I can speak with ease about simple and complex topics. I need more advanced vocabulary building, to be challenged to speak with more sophistication and learn more chengyu and other expressions.
